We had another lovely vacation at "Steve's".
We tried a new cabin this year called Gabro.
It was on Birch lake, which has boat traffic, unlike the cabins from past years that were very remote.
While it does have boat traffic, Birch Lake has very few cabins as most of the land is forrest service land.
The lack of cabins, coupled with the fact that we were on a little bay, meant we could see the boats in the distance, but still felt a great deal of solitude.
The water was the big highlight this year - as it was clean, huge and right out our door:
We were able to sauna and run out into the lake, as a cleared swimming hole was a skip away.
We had a nice dock where we all hung out to fish, catch bugs, drink wine, lay in the sun or read a book.
We had a little rock peninsula across the bay that had perfect small "cliffs" to jump off of for swimming and big black rocks
Everyone had a good time, although some drama reared its head in the form of the "ugly pants fiasco" (ask... and I will tell you the story)and a near death experience for sadie involving a hawk who thought she looked tasty.
Otherwise, everyone did their thing: Mike fished, Bella caught all manner of things (bugs, frogs, crayfish, walking sticks, snails), Emma took hikes and was prodded into all manner of fun, and Jess read all her books and started one more of steves.
It was another fun year.
